Religion and Culture on Roma Aeterna

In our version of the future universe religion is set up much like the old Romans did. Basically any religion can be followed as long as it is understood that the Gods of Roma and the emperors who are Gods as well are higher than the others. It is possible to avoid being pressured about this by avoiding official celebrations and such things, but it will be noticeable in time.

There is a temple area in the space station, where any religion can get space to create a temple, though the best places of course will be given to Jupiter, Juno and Mercury and the other Roman Gods, with a temple for the emperors as well. But any religion, even if it is currently unknown by the people on the space station will be given room to set up a temple, as long as respect is given to the main Gods.

So there is public religion, mostly focused on the historic Roman figures, who will be called for during events and such things. Some say the Gods really do have influence in people's lives and will grant miracles and such things, others say this is just another form of magic and not fueled by the Gods but by people's personal magical power. What people believe and worship in private is their own business, as long as the main gods are not being offended. A move to get someone in trouble over this issue will usually have a political base, few people are really as religious towards the Roman Gods to make it a point of faith.

The culture on station Roma Aeterna is a direction to try and keep to the classical influences while trying to handle the influx of a great many new cultures and ideas. The higher one is in class, the more important it is to be seen in the classical roman trappings of dress, education, housing, family structure, hygiene habits and all those things.

New influx of different cultures, ideas, and habits are grudgingly accepted, as long as the old Roman way of doing things is not overly threatened. Basically the way to deal with newfangled influences is to look down on them until they prove truely useful to the empire, at which moment they are accepted as being 'true Roman influences'. Anything different is grudgingly accepted but seen as an inferior way of dealing with things.

This is a good way to allow all kinds of races, culture and interpretations of technology and religion without losing the main theme and interpretation of our mux, so please if you icly work on changing some of these premises be prepared for ic reactions to this. We will try to work with it to create stories but we want to have a mux where people share their cultures and ideas on the basis of the space station, not a place where people will simple ignore the theme that is set. Thank you.
