Welcome to the Roma Aeterna Webpage!

If you are under 18 please leave this page.

"Write something to suit yourself and many people will like it; write something to suit everybody and scarcely anyone will care for it."  Jesse Stuart

This is the webpage on which you can find the information on the online game of Roma Aeterna, an online text game. Here you can find all the news files and other information. Roma Aeterna is an online text game based on an original idea and an original gamesystem. It is a science fantasy game that is kink and bdsm play friendly, but that will not be the only kind of play going on on the game. The game is specifically set up to provide a safe place to roleplay for players who have had to deal with sexual trauma and still enjoy stories that have bdsm and kink connections to them, with a setup that tries to limit the possibility of being triggered.

The game is suitable for anyone of 18 and over (if you are not that age please leave this webpage immediately!), and you can reach us at roma.genesismuds.com port 5151.

How do I get on Roma Aeterna with telnet?
To see if you can use telnet with your browser you can try by clicking here:
telnet link to the Roma Aeterna Online Game
If your browser is telnet compatible this will open a telnet window to the startup screen of the game.

If this does not work, I should give you a warning: IE6 has telnet but IE7 stopped supporting Telnet, so if that is your only browser you probably want to download one of the other programs. It works on the newest Firefox though. To use telnet without the link do the following: open your older IE or firefox or other browser and type in the command line:
telnet:roma.genesismuds.com:5151 Some browsers want you to use a space after the first : (colon).

If telnet works and your Internet properties are set right (I can unfortunately not give a lot of help with that for it has nothing to do with Faery's Tale, but if you are realy stuck, send me an email at dreamgarden.us@gmail.com and I will see what I can do for you) you will see the beginning screen of the game, which is the same as the heading of this webpage and has information in text. Type 'create <charactername> <password>' (the <> are meant to show that you have to fill in the appropriate names or password) (or connect if you have a character already), press enter or return, and you are on the game. To check out the game and read the information if you don't have a character yet type 'connect guest'. Telnet is good if you want to look around on the game and give the game a try, but in the long run we advise you to use one of the programs below, because they are a lot easier in use and not all the descriptions on the game are short enough to fit on only a telnet screen.

If Telnet does not work
A second option is to download a special program for playing on these kinds of games. These programs have different possibilities and features. Below I will give a few web addresses and we will give a little explanation with two of the easiest ones, Pueblo and Mush client. Pueblo is completely free in use (freeware) and Mush Client is 20 dollar to register, but it is shareware, and you can try it out for free for as long as you need to (if you don't mind the reminder screen in the beginning). You can find them to download on the following web pages:
mux client http://www.muxclient.com
simplemu http://simplemu.onlineroleplay.com/
pueblo http://pueblo.sourceforge.net/pueblo/#download

If you use a macintosh you can best use telnet; others have recommended a program called Better Telnet Fat. BetterTelnet for Mac OS: http://www.cstone.net/~rbraun/mac/telnet/ BetterTelnet for Mac OS is a significantly enhanced version of NCSA Telnet 2.7b5. It is just as flexible to configure, but adds more features, tons of bug fixes for true stability, and many new options. Best of all, BetterTelnet is free software, and the source code is reusable under the GNU General Public License (GPL)! You can also download the manual/help file for the program from the same web page. Unfortunately I do not use a Mac so I can't tell you exactly how to use it.

How do I get on the game with Mushclient?
Download mux client. Install the program. Open the program. Choose 'file' and then 'new world'. If you get a window with 'Pre load world defaults from an existing world?' click on 'no'. Maybe this last little question window will not be there because it only has use if you have already existing worlds. Then you get a screen with as title 'IP address'. Give a name for this world (for example 'Roma' or the name of your character) in the field 'name'. At the field for tcp/ip address you put: roma.genesismuds.com Put 5151 at the field 'Port number'. Click on 'save world automatically on close' that is the easiest. Then click ok. Now MushClient will start to connect with Roma and you will get the screen with the drawing of the header of this webpage and the information typed in the stone. Type 'create <charactername> <password>' (the <> are meant to show that you have to fill in the appropriate names or password), press return or enter, and you are on the gamle. If you already have a character use 'connect <charactername> <password>', not create.

How do I get on the game with Simplemu?
Download Simplemu and install the program. Open it and choose 'file' and then 'new connection wizard'. In the 'site address' line type 'roma.genesismuds.com' and click 'next. Then in Port number type '5151' and click next. Selext 'MUSH MUX or MOO' and click 'next. Type the name you want to use in Simplemu for this game, for example Roma or your character name and click 'finish'. Now you see the the beginning screen of the game that is the same as the header of this webpage and information in text. Type 'create <charactername> <password>' (the <> are meant to show that you have to fill in the appropriate names or password), press enter or return, and you are on the game. If you already have a character use 'connect <charactername> <password>', not create.

How do I get on the game with Pueblo?
Download Pueblo. Install the program. Open the program and click on 'edit your personal list'. You will see a small window with 'personal world list' and you click on 'add'. Give a name for this world (for example 'Roma' or the name of your character). Then the address, in the field host you put roma.genesismuds.com At type fill in TinyMush. Port is 5151. Then give the name of your Character as you want it as 'username' in and your password you want in the field password. If you want you can add a description for yourself, then you click 'OK'. After you have clicked ok you will return to your 'personal world list' and the new world is now in that list. Then you can for example click 'connect' while the world is chosen. Now you get a screen with the text "welcome to Roma Aeterna" (so not the drawing of telnet). Type 'create <charactername> <password>' (the <> are meant to show that you have to fill in the appropriate names or password), press return or enter, and you are on the game. If you already have a character use 'connect <charactername> <password>', not create. The disadvantage of Pueblo is that it tends to show irregular intervals for lists, and that is very irritating sometimes. Pueblo uses a variable letter width that is not equally wide for all letters, like courier. There is nothing you can do about this.

What do I do if I'm on the game itself?
When you are connected, you will see the beginning screen of the game with the heading the webpage uses as well and information in text. Type 'create <charactername> <password>' (the <> are meant to show that you have to fill in the appropriate names or password), press enter or return, and you are on the game. If you already have a character use 'connect <charactername> <password>', not create. Always first read the descriptions of the 'room' where you are in. A room is like a chat room, and a mux is a collection of these rooms. If you enter a room it's description will show automatically. Then you can move from one room to the other in the game. I will put a short explanation here.

Under the room description is a line with 'exits' with a word and then letters between <pointy hooks>. If you want to go in the direction that the word before these <pointy hooks=> tells you type the letters in the <hooks> and with that step into that room. The description of the new room is shown on your screen automatically if you enter, either if you enter by logging in or by changing rooms. In the descriptions of the start rooms you can find what beginning characters can do to learn how to use the game. Follow the instructions in the room.

If you have questions, you can talk to someone from a distance. To see who you can talk to you type '+who'. Now you get a little list with names and other information. To talk to one of these people you type 'p =' for example 'p Diana=Hi! I am new.' The name of the other players is in the first column of the fairies list. Diana and anyone with 'staff' behind their info on '+who' are staffers on Roma, and if you have questions, just type:
p Diana=Hi! I'm new.
If it's very quiet and there is no one who can help you then you might want to wait until there are others there, but the explanation in the startup rooms is quite thorough so maybe you can understand the explanations without having to ask anyone. But asking is fine with us! and we do not consider any questions silly. You can always type 'help' and it will explain more as well.

More information can be found on the game.
This is the starting explanation. More help can be found on the game itself, so by all means come check us out! If pueblo or mux client does not have the properties set right, then please first ask a local computer miracle to look at it with you, and if that doesn't work, you can send a mail to: dreamgarden.us@gmail.com and I will try to help you.

We wish you good times on the online Roma Aeterna game!
